Heaton Moor Ladies 29 – 17 Ormskirk

Moor Ladies ran out worthy winners of their final league match of the season.

On Sunday 23rd April, Heaton Moor Ladies had the honour of playing the last game from the old clubhouse (may it rest in peace!).

The ladies were disappointed to lose their previous 2 games with Ormskirk – especially as they were hindered by 3 inches of snow and a bracing wind in the latest game! The weather and the game were very different this time around though, with Moor leading from the outset in the sunshine.

Heidi scored a brilliant hat-trick, including at least one length-of-the-pitch effort.  She would have bought a jug to celebrate afterwards but unfortunately the bar could only provide water after the match!  Cat also scored one try and Sonia scored her first for the club, thanks to a perfectly timed pass from Alex.

Ormskirk fought back to within 5 points in the second half but another try from Heidi (who also scored 2 conversions) secured a much-deserved 29-17 victory for the home team.

The whole team worked well together in the 12 a-side game and continued the season’s trend of increasing numbers, with a record 19 players available on the day.

The ladies have had a great season, finishing 5th in the league after two other wins over Eccles (away) and Colne & Nelson (home) plus two walkover victories.

The last game of the season will be one of the first from the new clubhouse as Heaton Moor Ladies take on tourists The Banbury Belles in a friendly at 3pm on Saturday 29th April.

Congratulations on a successful season - keep up the hard work and let's look forward to more success next year. P. Heath.
