Ladies claim their 4th consecutive win!
Sunday 10th December, Green Lane Heaton Moor Ladies continued their winning streak and avenged their narrow defeat at Eccles at the start of the season. The Ladies claimed another league bonus point by turning out 15 players but Eccles only managed 9 players so I found myself in a rather strange shirt for the duration of the game. It was muddy, cold & windy and the score line and the first score seemed to take an age to come. The backs had some great runs but the ground was too soft to take full advantage of their pace. Towards the end of the first half, an Eccles player had to go off due to a nasty cut above her eye and Ellie joined me on the dark side. Moor finally broke through with a great run by Martina (playing both wing positions & full back) who scored the first try. After being denied against Fleetwood, 2nd row Kate got her name on the score sheet to make the half time score 10-0. The only score of the 2nd half was a fabulous effort by fly-half Sonia although Martina ran most of the length of the pitch before being tackled into touch. The ref whistled up about 15 minutes early at Eccles' request when another of their players took a knock.Try-scorer Kate won the man-of-the-match award but nominated birthday girl Leighann for the pint-downing which she won in a close run contest! At the time of writing, the league table hadn't been updated so please check the link under WOMEN'S RUGBY on the left to see if we have managed to get into the top 3 in the league for the first time ever. This is our best season so far and we have been really encouraged by the support from the men's teams (Thanks guys!). Let's hope it continues in the new year as our next match is home to Liverpool Collegiate on Sunday 14th January at 2pm. Merry Christmas everyone! |
