The match was kicked off by Heaton Moor and got off at a good pace with both teams testing each other from the start. Bolton was first to take advantage and score a try close to the posts, converting the try to give them a 7 point lead.
Moor hit back hard putting Bolton under pressure near their line. With Moor's greatly improved rucking from their previous match they were soon within reach of the try line for Colette Daniels to score close to the posts. Heidi Stancliffe taking the conversion to level the score at 7 apiece. From the restart Moor applied pressure again but a slip in defence allowed Bolton to regain possession. Exploiting the space on the wing Bolton looked set to score. However once over the line their player looked to have dropped the ball but the referee still awarded the try despite a justified appeal from the Moor players. With the score now 12-7 Moor were awarded a penalty in a very good position on the field. Moor decided to kick for the points but unfortunately it was missed. Bolton were back on the attack again with some good tackles by the Moor winger Sara Rigby slowing Bolton's charge for the line down. With the forwards getting around the pitch well Bolton again fed the ball out to the wing with success to score a try which they converted. With half time approaching and Moor trailing by 12 points stepped up the pressure. A good spell of possession was their reward which eventually resulted in a try and conversion for Heidi Stancliffe. The score at halftime was 19-12 and Moor were gaining some momentum despite being down to 11 players. The second half kicked off and for 20 minutes neither team made much headway against the other. Both teams experienced some good possession, which was either turned over by the opposition or lost due to handling errors. Several injuries to the opposition forced them to make substitutions the last one being made with just 10 minutes to go. From a Heaton Moor scrum the ball came back to Heidi Stancliffe who saw space on the Bolton wing and took the opportunity to put Moor back into the game with an unconverted try, making the score 19-17. With 4 minutes remaining on the clock Bolton looked set for their 1st league victory but Moor kept the pressure up. Moor gaining possession of the ball passed it out to Heidi Stancliffe who again saw space again down the Bolton wing to score the winning try. The conversion was missed and the referee whistled immediately after the attempt for the end of the game. Moor now having 4 points out of a possible 6 are looking a much stronger unit and will pose a threat to most teams in their division. |
