Don't abuse 999 service

POLICE are appealing to the public to only call 999 in an emergency over New Year.

Between Christmas Eve and Boxing Day more than 5,000 emergency 999 calls were made - but 72 of them were hoax calls and others were not emergencies.

Greater Manchester Police have issued the appeal at one of the force’s busiest times and after one hoax caller dialled 999 to report Santa was breaking into a house with Rudolf, and another called to ask for chemist opening times.
