Creditable draw for the ever-improving Under 14s

A real test for the boys this week, and the first home fixture of the season.  The mood in the camp was positive and it helped that we had 16 players available for selection.

From the off the forwards dominated; the drive, pick up and maul were controlled and positive. It was from such a move that Moor opened the scoring. A good run by James Sinclair on the wing gained valuable yards; the ball went through three sets of forward hands before Adam xx collected the ball 5 metres out and nothing was going to stop him hitting the line. 5-0 to the Moor.

The elated Moor team began celebrating to soon and from the kick were asleep and let the pacy Winnies backs in. Score 5-5. Winnies continued to pressurise and only a dramatic try saving tackle by Sam (Killer) Ireland kept the scores level

This only served to force the forwards on, and pressure on the Winnies scrum led to a penalty 5 metres out. Alex Hardy took responsibility and drove over carrying what appeared to be half the opposition with him. Just to show his skills he took the conversion himself 12-7 Moor

Winnies, who have not lost in some time, battled back, although at times they seemed to border the legality line. They scored a converted try 12-12

After good pressure from the forwards and excellent runs by Will Bailey, Chris Boland and John Warburton, Winnies kicked the ball out of defence to the versatile Prop/ fullback Sam (Killer) Ireland who drove the ball through a number of tackles to score a great try. Moor 17-12.

With time running out the pressure on Moor increased and from a scrum lost against the head, fast ball to their pacy backs led to an equalising score from Winnies. Thankfully this was unconverted and left the final score 17 -17. The Moor boys were a little disappointed as they knew they could have had a W, but soon realised that this side had crushed us last year by more than 50 points.

Man of the Match went to Will Bailey who has quickly fitted into the fly half role. He ran the game and with some excellent field kicking turned defence into attack.

Training Thursday 6pm next week home game V’s Bolton 10-00 meet.
