Strong second half from Aldwinians blows away spirited Moor effort.
Heaton Moor 14-49 Aldwinians Heaton Moor’s winning run came to an abrupt end on Sunday, with an excellent performance from Aldwinians. The game started brightly, sharp thinking from scrum half Mike Ingham exploited gaps in the defence to open up space for a good passing move ending in a converted try for Dan McDonagh. The Moor try line was threatened on several occasions throughout the half and this constant pressure resulted in the equalizing converted try from Aldwinians. The lads hit back though late on in the half with another good team try scored by Owen John, to leave them 14-7 up at the break, despite being under pressure from the powerful, well drilled Aldwinians pack for most of the half. Unfortunately for Moor the team started cold and were punished by Aldwinians with a try in the first 30 seconds to level the score. This early error seemed to have a bad effect on the whole team as the rest of the game continued in this fashion, with tries being run in by Aldwinians at regular intervals. It was disappointing to see so many heads drop and lack of concentration allowing the game to drift away. Aldwinians made the most of our demoralized team and played some of the finest offloading rugby seen all season. Hopefully we can learn from this and go on to become a mentally stronger team, as we believe we have the talent and skills within the squad to compete with the best. Evidence of Aldwinians domination showed in our tackle count, one particular player, Sean Aggett, led the way with his tackle count reaching 12, a record for the season in one match and much deserving the man of the match award.
