Moor display solidarity to defeat physical Bury team.
Potentially looking at the fixtures already played we expected a strong challenge from Bury and that is exactly what we got, probably the best side we have played this season. Bury were well organised and looked like a powerful group. The game started slowly as the Moor lads came to terms with this tough opposition, some of them not quite on the ball for whatever reason! Although, they managed to take an early lead when Owen John broke through the Bury defence and offloaded to the good supporting run of Casey Cornwell to run in the opening try. Although holding the majority of possession, Moor didn't make it count, it wasn't until late in the first half that a fine rolling maul combined with slick back play produced the second try, scored by Gabriel Hollings. At the half time break stern words from the coaches pointing out the game was still there to be won and much more intensity would be required to complete the victory, with Moor possibly fortunate to go in at the break two tries up. It was the wake up call that was needed as all the players came to the party for the second half. Despite being physically outsized by the Bury pack, Moor's forwards determination, teamwork and technique shone through as they began to control the breakdown and sure up the scrum that had been under pressure from Bury in the first half. A low tackle count in the game was not due to lack of effort in the second half but further domination of possession, hardly giving Bury a sniff. This possession accumulated to two more excellently worked tries from Daniel McDonagh and Casey Cornwell, one of his best performances, showing brilliant composure and finishing ability on the wing. Moor brought Sam Smith and Ellis Astall into the game who both made significant impacts off the bench; Ellis's hard running earning good yards for the team whilst Sam's deceptive strength added an extra dimension to the team's rucking game and his try saving tackle was definitely one of the highlights of the game. Altogether a great team performance, with Moor shutting the opposition out for the first time this season. Man of the match went to Aiden O'Malley who showed his determination in everything he did during the game, also Sunday saw a great place kicking performance from Dan McDonagh with four out of four. Well done to all the lads.
