Winning streak by U14s continues.
Game 4 of the season, having won 1 drawn 1 and lost 1, only the eternal optimist was betting on a different result. The week had started badly.- Head coach Keith Saville had his van pinched at work, replacement car broke down and when lent another car by a friend on training night spent 20 minutes trying to deactivate the alarm, only to be told to try the car where the lights kept flashing every time he pushed the key fob and not the one he was trying to get in. Fortunately the training session went well, and thanks to some expert coaching on the dark arts of the front row by Tiny Goodwin, the team were focussed and ready. And so to the game An early try by Jack O’Rourke, the ball was shipped down the back line following good forward pressure, and he quickly shifted up the gears before employing the after burners cruising past the defensive cover setting the mood for the day. (5-0) The score was quickly doubled by Will Bailey (10-0), but this did not “feed the need” for the Moor boys to go easy on their opponents. A panic kick out of defence on reach Sam (Killer) Ireland who caught the ball off his toes and without breaking stride crashed through a couple of tackles before being brought to ground by a courageous tackle by Bolton’s Man of the Match, their fullback. Killer was able to leave the ball perfectly positioned for John Walters, who picked up and drove over the line. The try was converted by Alex Hardy (17-0). The try came at a cost, Killer having to leave the field with a bad ankle. Fortunately Sam Fletcher who had been missing for the past two games due to his own injury and started the game on the wing, was able to move to his favoured position and Jake David coming onto the wing for his Moor debut. From a 22 drop out by Bolton, Alex Hardy caught the ball and ran through to score; he was able to convert his own try. The last try of the first half came from a good break by Will Bailey who was caught just short of the line, John Walters again on hand to collect the ball and crash over (29-0) Moor started the 2nd half thinking that lots of tries would be available, and due to people playing as individuals, and some resolute tackling by the Bolton boys, led to opportunities being missed. To the boys' credit they were able to resolve the matter. The pack got things together and Adam Moores was able to crash over from short range (36-0). This continued pressure by the forwards, gave space to the backs, and with time and space, Will Bailey was able to use his speed and guile to float through untouched (43-0) Bolton resorted to kicking the ball away in desperation and on one such occasion Sam Fletcher caught the ball 40 metres from the line and ran through what seemed like half their team to score under the posts. From the kick off Chris Boland caught the ball on his own 22, and not to be outdone by the previous 40 metre effort, ran 78 metres along the touchline to score the final try. (55-0). Team Tom Critchley, James Bennett, Dan Goodwin, Alex Hardy, Reece Williams, Oliver Saville, Jack Ashey, Adam Moores, John Milman, Will Bailey, Jack O’Rourke, Chris Boland, John Walters, Sam Fletcher, Sam Ireland, Jake David An excellent performance by all the team, 7 tries by the backs and 2 from the forwards would have most coaches ecstatic, but alas no. Following the game, the weekly fashion parade, in front of His Honour and fellow council members, showed a number of interesting ladies hats that are bound to catch on at some time or another. Unfortunately there was 1 player missing. YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE. Please report to the coaches on Thursday evening for extra fashion tips Letter have been sent to all parents giving details of annual subs and proposed trip to Ireland at the end of the season. Keith spends a huge about of time coaching the boys and if any parent feels they would be able to support us by taking on some administrative tasks, please ,please make yourself known on a Thursday or Sunday. Training at 6pm on Thursday, away next Sunday meeting at 9-45am |
