Unbeaten run continues.
Rain and wind on a heavy Lakeland pitch were ideal conditions for the large and heavy Windermere pack. This was to limit the amount of quick, clean ball for Moor’s backs and tie down their mobile pack. The home side took an early lead with a simple penalty from under the posts, but this was quickly negated when they kicked ahead in the hope of tying Moor down. However, the ball was cleanly taken by Nick Hawke just inside his own half, giving him the chance to make 30 metres up-field before starting a session of inter-passing that ended with Keith Young crossing in the corner. Moor increased their lead on 25 minutes when the ball was quickly moved from a scrum across the back line to create an overlap for Paul Stonehouse in the opposite corner. Although the difficult conversion failed, Martin Shelley was on hand to convert 2 penalty chances in the last 5 minutes of the half for a 16-3 lead. The second half was to be a severe test of Moor’s defence as Windermere piled on the pressure to save the game. For a quarter of an hour they laid siege to Moor’s line, but superb tackling kept them out. With 10 minutes remaining, Windermere did force their way over for a converted try but a couple of silly penalties gave Moor opportunities to clear their lines and hold out for hard-won league points. Moor now have a week off from league action having gone through the first half of the league campaign unbeaten. |
