Moor turn the screw in the final 20 to record impressive win.

A little rusty after last week’s enforced lay-off, Moor took some time to settle into their normal pattern, despite scoring an early try. It came from early pressure which took Moor into the visitor’s 22 where player/coach Keith Young found a gap to touch down under the posts, fly-half Martin Shelley converting. After 20 minutes of stalemate, Fleetwood converted a penalty chance to narrow the margin to 7-3, but within minutes Ivan Smetana came in off his wing to find a gap for a try that Shelley converted. Two needless mistakes put Fleetwood back in contention with converted tries, but Moor redeemed themselves in the final minutes of the half with a solo effort from centre Martin Snidal, Shelley converting for a 21-17 half-time lead.

In the second half, Moor’s backs began to show their potential with a series of fast attacks to put the result beyond doubt, even though three other scoring chances went begging. A chip ahead by Snidal was pounced on by Shelley as he outpaced the cover for a try in the corner. Although the conversion fell short, he converted the final two tries. The first was his own, the second going to scrum-half Felipe Silva from a sniping blindside break as Moor ran out comfortable winners 40-17.

This Saturday, Tyldesley are the visitors to Green Lane, k.o. 2:15 pm.
