Weather dictates affairs as Moor draw in sludgy encounter.
With the nearby River Greta on flood alert and even the local ducks taking shelter, some brave supporters from both clubs trudged through the mud to a nearby school pitch that was the only playable area in Keswick. The state of the ground and a strong end-to-end wind, coupled with driving rain, meant that most of the game was played between the 22s. Scoring was restricted to penalties, Keswick taking a half-time lead 6-3 having had the wind at their backs. The war of attrition continued into the second half, the only score coming from Martin Shelley’s second penalty after 5 minutes, levelling the scores. Both sides then became bogged down for the remaining 35 minutes and the final whistle came as a welcome relief to a very sodden set of players and spectators alike, with the score at 6-6. This Saturday, Moor welcome Workington to Green Lane, k.o. 3:00 pm. |
