Moor win EDF Energy Senior Vase Rd 2 Fixture at Garstang.

A blindside break by scrum-half Felipe Silva after 5 minutes provided the initial impetus that was carried on by winger Nick Hawke, who broke several tackles along the touchline before touching down in the corner. Although the conversion fell short, fly-half Martin Shelley kicked a penalty a few minutes later to give Moor a 8-0 lead in this EDF Energy Senior Vase second round tie. For the remainder of the half, play was largely confined to the midfield as soft conditions underfoot prevented any prolonged passages of play. In injury time at the interval, a line-out on Moor’s 5-metre line was won by Garstang and a reverse pass to their blindside winger saw him run in unopposed for a converted try to narrow the margin to 8-7.

The second half saw a much more committed performance by Moor who dominated events for much of the session. Midfield pressure by the pack was converted into three further tries. Hawke finished off moves to make two more touchdowns for his hat-trick and flanker Nick Smith added another, all converted by Shelley, to see Moor comfortably into the third round, 29-7.

This Saturday, Moor face a long trip to Wigton as they return to league action.
